Position Overview:

Holtec International, a prominent global provider of comprehensive equipment and systems for the nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil energy sectors, is looking to enhance its SMR-160 nuclear reactor engineering team by hiring an Instrumentation and Controls Specialist.

This role entails the design and evaluation of both safety and non-safety related Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) systems for the SMR-160 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). The Specialist will work under the guidance of a senior engineer and will frequently collaborate with mechanical, nuclear, and electrical engineering teams to ensure effective I&C design and consultation. The Specialist will leverage their expertise, industry best practices, regulatory frameworks, codes, and standards, along with sound engineering judgment to guarantee that designs meet international regulatory standards and industry benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive Control System Descriptions for various plant systems.
  • Review and provide insights on P&ID development from an I&C perspective.
  • Interpret and create logic diagrams, Instrument and I/O Lists.
  • Draft system function and design requirement specifications, along with other essential design documents.
  • Conduct Human Factors analysis for plant systems.
  • Size and specify I&C equipment, including transmitters, operators, control valves, and switches.
  • Execute I&C calculations such as setpoint, loop calibration, and instrument calibration tolerances.
  • Oversee the selection and vetting of instrument vendors.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience in power generation I&C system design (nuclear, fossil, etc.).
  • Proven technical writing and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, independence, flexibility, adaptability, and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, effective in collaborative environments.
  • Eligibility to work in accordance with Department of Energy regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in I&C/Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • More than 5 years of relevant experience in power generation I&C system design.
  • Experience in designing or supporting I&C systems such as neutron flux monitoring, control rod drive systems, radiation monitoring, and plant protection systems.
  • Background in conducting Human Factors analysis of plant systems, particularly in nuclear applications.
  • Experience in integrated plant control design and tuning or major system commissioning, including test development.
  • Familiarity with NUREG 0800, Chapters 7 and 18.
  • Knowledge of US domestic or international licensing standards.
  • Experience with relevant IEEE, IEC, EPRI, ISA, ANSI, and IAEA codes and standards, including Cyber Security/CDAs.
