Job Summary:The Patient Safety Aide/Sitter provides direct observation and supervision to patients who require close monitoring due to safety concerns. This includes patients with compromised judgment, those who may need companionship due to confusion or agitation, and patients at risk for self-harm or elopement.
Key Responsibilities:- Provides direct supervision and line of sight to patients with safety concerns.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, hygiene, and feeding.
- Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs, including language barriers, sensory problems, and cultural and religious needs.
- Integrates principles of infection control and infection prevention into practice.
- Interacts with patients in a manner that preserves their dignity, privacy, and meets their psychosocial and age-appropriate needs.
- Escorts and assists patients with ambulatory and bathroom privileges, staying with them at all times and requesting assistance as needed.
- Provides diversionary activities to engage patients, such as reading, working on puzzles, or conversing.
- Assists with patient re-positioning and transfers, and helps patients with general comfort needs.
- Keeps patient care areas free of clutter and hazards, and monitors patients per policy to protect their safety and the safety of others.
- Communicates patient and unit information to the RN and interdisciplinary team in a timely manner.
- Seeks help from the patient's primary RN and interdisciplinary team when needed, and informs them of any difficulties completing assignments.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English.
- Healthcare provider CPR certification (can be attained within 30 days of hire).
