A Pump Mechanic/Field Service Tech is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of pumps and systems. These pumps may be used in various industries, including water supply, oil and gas, manufacturing, and wastewater treatment.
Key Responsibilities:- Installation & Setup: Install and commission different types of pumps (centrifugal, diaphragm, piston, etc.) and associated equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, seals, bearings, and other related components.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic issues in pumps, identifying and fixing problems related to vibration, cavitation, leakage, or inadequate flow.
- Repair: Disassemble, inspect, and repair or replace defective parts such as impellers, shafts, bearings, seals, and gaskets.
- Alignment & Balancing: Ensure proper alignment of pumps and motor shafts, and balance rotating assemblies for optimal performance.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed maintenance records, work orders, and service reports.
- Compliance: Follow safety regulations and company policies while working on equipment, and adhere to industry standards such as OSHA and MSHA.
- Testing: Perform pressure, flow, and performance tests to ensure pumps are operating at required specifications.
- Collaboration: Work with other technicians, engineers, and operations staff to troubleshoot system-wide issues and optimize pump systems.
- Education: High school diploma or GED; vocational training or certification in mechanical, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a pump mechanic or similar role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, manuals, and technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience with power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
- Mechanical certification (preferred).
- Valid driver's license (required).
- OSHA/MSHA safety certification (a plus).
Fieldwork in various industrial settings (factories, water treatment plants, oil fields).
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and stand or crouch for long periods.
May be exposed to hazardous materials, loud noise, and variable weather conditions.
