Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the ophthalmology department.

Responsibilities
  • Administer diagnostic tests, including visual field testing, contact lenses, and ophthalmic surgery
  • Take anatomical and functional ocular measurements, test ocular functions, and administer topical ophthalmic medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
  • Instruct patients in home care and use of contact lenses, and provide patient education
  • Assist in ophthalmic surgery, sterilize and maintain ophthalmic instruments, and perform administrative duties such as scheduling patient appointments and taking patient histories
Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an accredited ophthalmic program or have a high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related experience
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, ocular anatomy, ophthalmic pharmacology, ocular motility, and diseases of the eye
  • Ability to operate ophthalmic equipment and administer preliminary screening examinations
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions, and occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours.
