We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Legal Secretary at the California Department of Justice. As a Legal Secretary, you will play a critical role in supporting our attorneys and professional staff by performing a range of administrative and secretarial duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Document Preparation: Prepare, edit, and proofread legal documents, including correspondence, court forms, and pleadings, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize various department-supported software, such as Word, West-Check, Legal Solutions, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and ProLaw, to perform tasks efficiently.
  • Case Management: Maintain a calendar of document due dates and court appearances, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to legal requirements.
  • Communication: Screen, answer, and take messages from callers in a professional manner, providing excellent customer service.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with overflow work as requested, providing support to the team as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Two years of experience in a private law firm, corporate law office, or a legal program in a governmental agency performing a full range of legal secretarial duties, or completion of a certificated legal secretarial program and one year of experience.
  • Skills: Excellent typing and editing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
