Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Medical Care Specialist to join our team in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide essential medical care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. This is a part-time, night shift position with alternating days.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver basic nursing care to meet the needs of patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights, determine their needs, and relay information to appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Observe patients, report any changes in condition to the nurse in a timely manner, and adapt care delivery to meet individual needs.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene, toileting, and more.
  • Perform various tasks, including vital signs, weight, complete/partial baths, skin care, Foley catheter care, enemas, specimen collection, and more.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, preparing equipment for return to Central Service when necessary.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • BLS certification (AHA only) and first aid training
  • De-escalation training provided on the job
  • Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand patient plans of care and record data on medical records
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations to take and record patient weights, vital signs, intake/output, and more
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and families, demonstrating recognition of cultural diversity
  • Basic analytical skills to gather data, compare, interpret, report outcomes, and document on medical records
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and possess excellent customer service skills
