About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Energy Systems Planning and Forecasting Specialist to join our team at ENGIE North America Inc. In this role, you will be responsible for developing long-term grid scenarios for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO)/Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) footprint and forecasting nodal price curves using production cost modeling tools.


Responsibilities
  • You will develop and execute scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyze the results to provide insights on energy system performance.
  • You will also execute production cost models using Day-Ahead Locational Market Clearing Prices Analyzer (Dayzer) by analyzing and updating inputs as appropriate to ensure accurate forecasts.
  • A key responsibility is to develop systematic and repeatable approaches to analyze and form fundamental views with respect to macro-trends, identifying drivers of market outcomes based on supply, demand, renewables, and micro-fundamentals.
  • You will collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve relevant tools and participate in Independent System Operator (ISO) meetings as required.

Requirements
  • To be successful in this role, you will need a Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, business, or finance, along with a minimum of seven years of professional experience and five years of grid planning or wholesale electricity market experience in CAISO/WECC or a relevant ISO.
  • You must have strong analytical skills and a clear understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors, and contingency analysis.
  • A strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills, you will also possess proficiency in coding languages such as Structured Query Language (SQL) and Python, along with knowledge of statistical techniques.
