Position Overview: The Town is in search of a skilled Utility Line Technician to join the Water and Sewer Maintenance division. This role involves proficiently executing the installation, repair, and upkeep of water and sewer pipelines. The position may require extended hours for emergency situations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:00am to 3:00pm
  • Rotating On-Call Shifts
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace utility lines and associated components.
  • Conduct water and sewer taps and service connections.
  • Install water meters and perform flushing of sewer lines and manholes.
  • Locate and test water and sewer lines.
  • Perform routine tests and add necessary chemicals to sewer lines.
  • Engage in minor landscaping following work completion.
  • Operate various machinery including trucks, tractors, and backhoes.
  • Be available for on-call duties as assigned.
  • Complete work requests from other departments.
  • Assist in snow and ice removal as needed.
  • Adhere to safety standards by wearing steel-toed safety boots at all times on the job.
  • Carry out additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year of general work experience; experience in water and sewer line work is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • CDL Class B with tanker and air brake endorsement required at the time of hire or within six (6) months of employment.
  • Flagging certification required within six (6) months of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment used in utility line installation and maintenance.
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Capability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Work is primarily conducted outdoors, exposing the worker to various environmental conditions.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and the requirement to wear protective equipment.
Physical Demands:
  • This position requires heavy physical exertion, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, and frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Job tasks involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive motions.
  • Vocal communication and hearing are essential for effective job performance.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for operating machinery and ensuring work accuracy.
