The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Fuels PIE Department Manager to oversee our Fuels Post-Irradiation Examination department. This role involves leading a team that operates on a 4x10 schedule, with weekends off. The manager will provide both managerial and technical guidance to ensure the successful execution of our mission in fuels PIE and performance analysis.
Key Responsibilities- Direct the operations of the department through subordinate supervisors and professionals.
- Offer strategic guidance to team members while adhering to established company policies.
- Ensure the effective functioning of activities that hold significant importance to the organization, making decisions that influence team methods and techniques.
- Develop financial plans, business strategies, and workforce priorities, ensuring that budgets and performance standards are met.
- Manage a team of employees performing similar tasks, which may include both supervisory and non-supervisory staff.
- Receive and execute objective-based assignments, determining necessary resources to achieve goals.
- Oversee a specific function, location, and technical discipline.
- Propose policy changes and establish procedures that impact the department or multiple disciplines.
- Assist in formulating both short-term and long-term departmental goals.
- Collaborate with subordinate supervisors, customers, and professionals across various functions.
- Engage with external partners and key contacts outside of your area of expertise.
- Present findings and recommendations across different disciplines.
- Fulfill third-level management responsibilities, including human resource management.
- Coordinate with mission managers to align research priorities and timelines with staff understanding.
- Ensure staff assignments are integrated into the resource-loaded mission schedule.
- Work with managers sharing technical staff resources to establish R2A2s for all team members.
- Act as a technical resource and mentor, promoting innovative development ideas within the department.
- Ensure the implementation of assigned CAPIE R2A2s by staff.
- Align completed tasks with organizational goals while empowering employees.
- Support the development of departmental strategies and their alignment with divisional objectives.
- Implement all responsibilities outlined in the management model, including planning, staffing, and leadership.
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years, or a PhD with 4 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced degree in nuclear science, engineering, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of nuclear fuels and materials, irradiation testing, and post-irradiation examination processes.
- Exceptional presentation skills.
- Commitment to mentoring others in their career development.
- U.S. citizenship is strongly preferred, with the ability to obtain L clearance.
- Target salary range: $137,205 - $203,855.
