Varsity Wrestling Coach

West Virginia Department of Education is seeking a qualified Varsity Wrestling Coach to join our team.

The Varsity Wrestling Coach will be responsible for leading the Varsity Wrestling team and implementing a comprehensive program that promotes athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and academic achievement.

• Develop and implement a coaching philosophy that emphasizes the development of student-athletes both on and off the mat.
• Recruit, select, and manage a team of assistant coaches and support staff.
• Plan and conduct practices, games, and tournaments in accordance with West Virginia State High School Athletic Association (WVSSAC) rules and regulations.
• Develop and implement a weight training program that enhances the physical and mental development of student-athletes.
• Conduct regular team meetings and provide guidance on academic and personal issues.
• Collaborate with the athletic trainer to prevent injuries and promote a safe and healthy environment for student-athletes.
• Develop and implement a program that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for opponents, officials, and teammates.
• Maintain accurate records of team performance, attendance, and academic progress.
• Communicate effectively with parents, students, and school administrators to promote a positive and supportive team environment.

• Certification as a teacher by the West Virginia Board of Education or coaching authorization granted by the State Superintendent of Schools.
• Specialized training in wrestling and experience as a head coach or assistant coach.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others and promote a positive team environment.

The Varsity Wrestling Coach will work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on promoting athletic excellence and academic achievement. The coach will be required to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, to prepare for games and tournaments.

The coach will also be required to travel to away games and tournaments, which may involve overnight stays. The coach will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to the policies and procedures of the West Virginia Department of Education.
