Job Summary

The University of Virginia's Office for Sustainability is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sustainability Outreach Specialist to support the Green Labs program. This dynamic role will play a critical part in advancing sustainability initiatives across the university's research labs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement new Green Labs initiatives, tools, and resources to promote sustainability practices among researchers and lab occupants.
  • Lead the Green Labs Working Group and collaborate with stakeholders to advance established initiatives such as Green Labs Certification and the International Laboratory Freezer Challenge.
  • Conduct site visits to research labs, engaging with researchers and lab staff to identify opportunities for sustainability improvements.
  • Measure and report program success, tracking metrics and feedback to inform future initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain outreach materials, including social media content, resource guides, and case studies, to promote Green Labs practices and successes.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainable Labs team and Associate Manager for Communications to maintain the Green Labs website and other communications tools.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as sustainability, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in a related field, with a strong background in sustainability, research, and communication.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex sustainability concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach.
What We Offer

The University of Virginia offers a competitive salary range of $55,000-$57,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week exempt-level position with UVA benefits. We support workplace flexibility when appropriate, but 100% remote work is not possible.
