Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Dragon Spacecraft Mechanisms

SpaceX is a pioneering space exploration company that aims to make humanity a multi-planetary species. We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our spacecraft mechanisms.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the production, assembly, and integration of spacecraft structural mechanisms, ensuring high-quality and efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and implement production procedures and processes, managing the transition of parts and assemblies from development to full-rate production.
  • Collaborate with design teams to provide Design for Manufacturability and Assembly feedback, influencing new product designs to improve manufacturability and reduce costs.
  • Implement design changes, process improvements, and build flow changes to existing products, reducing assembly and fabrication hours and costs.
  • Create and maintain project lifecycle roadmaps from first article production through sustainment, ensuring timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Analyze and resolve manufacturing discrepancies, working closely with the quality team to resolve issues related to design, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Conceptualize and develop tooling, fixturing, and shop aides to enhance production processes, improving efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams through root cause analysis to resolve mechanism performance anomalies during functional and performance testing and integration.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2 years of manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, or testing experience (internship experience can supplement for required industry experience).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Master of Science degree in Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with spacecraft or aircraft structural assemblies.
  • Process development, facility and line layouts, PFMEA, Error-Proofing.
  • Experience with Unigraphics (UGS) and Teamcenter CAD and PDM systems.
  • Knowledge of metallic manufacturing techniques, processes, equipment, and other processes such as machining, welding, drilling, and sheet metal forming.
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems (National Instruments hardware, LabView programming).
Additional Requirements:
  • Position may require long hours and weekend work.
  • Must be team-oriented and involved with the shop floor.
