Position Overview:

The Senior Analyst in Energy Settlements role is under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Power Settlements, and is responsible for overseeing processes related to energy settlements. The main focus of this position is to guarantee that all settlement activities involving accrual, actualization, reconciliation, and payment are executed accurately and punctually. Key responsibilities include the calculation, analysis, and reporting of power gross margins. This role necessitates collaboration with various departments such as Supply, Risk, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounting, and Finance to identify and rectify issues, assist with cash forecasting and variance analysis, and meet settlement obligations with ISOs and other partners. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the Retail Energy and wholesale market processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide secondary support across all facets (settlements, month-end closing, balance sheet reconciliation) of the Settlements team.
  • Oversee the management of the option transaction registry.
  • Offer guidance and possess a thorough understanding of ISO regulations for ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ISONE, AESO, and IESO; ERCOT knowledge is preferred.
  • Develop and uphold procedures to ensure all ISO invoices are reconciled, processed, and paid promptly.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of variances between actual and anticipated gross margins.
  • Perform a comprehensive variance analysis between estimated and actual energy costs, providing feedback to the Trading team.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Planning to ensure accuracy in gross margin forecasting.
  • Identify optimization and cost-saving opportunities while enhancing transparency regarding power costs.
  • Engage with external partners to resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams as necessary, including Legal, Supply Team, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, and Finance.
  • Utilize actual settled data to provide insights to the Structuring team and assist in refining retail pricing models.
  • Work alongside other teams within the organization to implement and enhance processes and systems supporting the aforementioned activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Contribute effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.

Qualifications and Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from an accredited institution; a master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the retail energy sector, with familiarity in ISOs.
  • Proficient in ISO regulations and charge types to provide guidance to the team and address inquiries from leadership, with a solid understanding of the ERCOT market being preferred.
  • Ability to develop and manage remote teams effectively.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of ETRM/CTRM systems.
  • A business-oriented professional with strong analytical skills capable of problem-solving and establishing processes.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior leadership and communicate clearly with business partners.
  • A detail-oriented self-starter with strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills, capable of managing multiple assignments efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic business environment.
  • Organized individual capable of planning and adjusting to the timing challenges of multiple deadlines.
  • Collaborate within a team environment to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Some travel may be required.
