Job Summary

The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for maintaining a program that assures patients receive quality and age-appropriate Medical Nutrition Therapy consistent with hospital policy and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and Maintain Standards of Care: Develop and evaluate appropriate standards of care for Medical Nutrition Therapy, ensuring alignment with hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and Evaluate Nutrition Program: Continuously assess the nutrition program's effectiveness and offer suggestions for improvement as needed.
  • Prioritize Daily Work Assignments: Ensure timely monitoring of patients at nutritional risk, prioritizing daily work assignments to meet this critical need.
  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy: Assess, intervene, and develop plans for patients determined to be at nutritional risk, including education and counseling as needed.
  • Review Medical Orders and Assess Appropriateness: Evaluate medical orders for modified diets, considering patient clinical status, age, and other relevant factors.
  • Communicate with Patients and Staff: Regularly communicate with patients and staff to assess diet acceptance and understanding, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Document Nutrition Care Plans: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nutrition care plans in patient medical records.
  • Provide Education and Training: Instruct patients, relatives, and staff on prescribed diets, documenting patient understanding and motivation to adhere to diet prescriptions.
  • Maintain Effective Relationships: Foster effective multi-disciplinary relationships and communication with medical staff, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Plan and Conduct Educational Programs: Develop and conduct educational programs for nursing staff, medical staff, nutrition, and food service staff, as well as the general public.
  • Stay Current with Professional Development: Maintain professional competency through ongoing education, reviewing technical journals, attending professional meetings, and reporting on these activities.
Qualifications
  • Required Skills and Experience: 1+ years of progressive therapeutic experience, with demonstrated competency in nutrition throughout the life-cycle, and a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Nutrition from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure and Registration: Licensure in the State of Massachusetts as a Dietitian is required within 90 days of hire, and registration as a dietitian (RADA) or eligibility to obtain R.D. credentials within 12 months of hire.
