Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at California Seed & Plant Lab. As a key member of our core services team, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of our laboratory's priorities and ensuring the highest quality of our seed and plant testing services.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with lab directors, managers, and service directors to establish priorities and provide R&D support.
- Participate in industry groups and lead projects related to method development and validation.
- Coordinate tasks and resources between participants and attend regular meetings.
- Perform validation of current methods and engage with the industry and scientific community for acceptance.
- Develop new methods, perform validation studies, and complete necessary documentation.
- Create method validation plans according to industry guidelines.
- Perform wet lab work and supervise assistant staff as the unit grows.
- Participate in or lead comparative testing and perform experimental design, statistical analysis, and final report writing.
- Work through industry group submittal processes and review questions from collaborating scientists.
- Serve as a technical expert to our internal labs and support lab managers and senior technicians with technical queries and challenges.
- Assist with root cause analysis of major business critical issues and support customer service team with technical non-test related enquiries.
- Review existing lab protocols to ensure methods are in line with lab best practices and reference methods.
- Assist with internal audits as an auditor and support initial validation, implementation, and transfer of new methods or strengthening existing ones.
- Masters Degree or PhD in plant pathology.
- At least 5 years of experience in molecular biology, designing PCR primers, DNA extraction, DNA sequencing, etc.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with variety of different teams that need support.
- Must be a self starter and able to organize and prioritize their workload.
- Able to stand for long periods when performing wet lab work, bend, stoop, lift 30 lbs.
