Position Summary
The role of a Cable Installation Technician involves supporting the construction of new vessels by facilitating the placement and installation of electrical cables. This includes pulling sheathed cables through various conduits and handling equipment and materials as necessary. The position requires the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and operates under direct supervision with clear instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute cable installations in shipboard cableways using approved techniques, which necessitates climbing ladders and physically managing cable pulls.
- Gain training in the fundamentals of electricity and electronics, along with knowledge of shipboard and shore installations.
- Work from technical documents such as blueprints and manuals to ensure accurate installations.
- Utilize flexible steel ribbon (fish tape) or rods to navigate ducts for cable installation.
- Securely attach wires to rods or fish tape to facilitate the pulling of wires through ducts.
- Properly attach wires to cables and pull them through ducts, either manually or with the aid of a winch.
- Ensure cables are secured and banded once installations are verified.
- Monitor assigned areas for any hazardous conditions and maintain records as required.
- Activate alarms and contact emergency personnel when necessary.
- Communicate effectively using phones and wireless devices to relay information and concerns.
- Adhere to organizational standards and requirements relevant to specific tasks.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as directed by management to support the organization's objectives.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English.
- Basic understanding of standard power tools and the ability to follow simple instructions.
- Excellent vision and attention to detail are essential.
- Capability to lift heavy objects and work at heights of up to 50 feet using appropriate safety measures.
- Must pass a background check for access to specific facilities.
