Overview
We are seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to join our team at the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system.
The CHS service strives to provide safe, holistic, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population. The service provides comprehensive and unique treatment modalities, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, and robust creative arts programming.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, some previous work experience, and certification as a State of New York Certified Physician's Assistant. A Master's degree and NY State Licensed Physician Assistant certification are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Completes comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic illness.
- Evaluates the need for consult services and submits prioritized consults when indicated.
- Reviews all on-island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluates recommendations to ensure standard of care is met and implements recommendations of the consultant.
- Responds to emergencies and fire drills in a timely and professional manner.
- Requests radiology exams, lab-tests, and EKGs when indicated and interprets results in conjunction with patient's clinical status.
- Notifies Urgicare for 3 hour/EMS runs and generates medical modifications as needed.
- Maintains clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and C.M.E.s.
- Ensures standard of care is maintained and adheres to policies and procedures of CHS.
- Attends all mandatory in-services and complies with Employee Health requirements.
