Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Part-Time Physician Assistant to join our team at Rikers Island in East Elmhurst, NY. As a Part-Time Physician Assistant, you will provide primary care to patients in jail-based clinics, perform intake evaluations, and provide emergency care with the support of Emergency Medicine physicians.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
- Evaluate the need for consult services and submit prioritized consults when indicated.
- Review all on-island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluate recommendations to ensure standard of care is met and implement consultant recommendations.
- Respond to emergencies and fire drills in a timely and professional manner.
- Be familiar with performance indicators (P.I.) and take appropriate measures to comply with these standards.
- Request radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated and interpret results in conjunction with patient clinical status.
- Notify Urgicare for 3-hour/EMS runs and generate medical modifications as needed.
- Maintain clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and C.M.E.s.
- Ensure standard of care is maintained and adhere to policies and procedures of CHS.
- Attend all mandatory in-services and comply with Employee Health requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree; some previous work experience required.
- State of New York Certified Physician's Assistant; Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants.
Preferred Skills:
- Master's/Bachelor's degree NY State Licensed Physician Assistant Familiar with EHR
