About the Role

Abbott Laboratories is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Controls Engineer II to join our team in Scarborough, Maine. As a key member of our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics team, you will play a critical role in supporting product development from concept through sustained manufacturing of FDA-regulated products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement process development, equipment specification, and acquisition strategies to ensure compliance with cGMP and quality standards.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot machine logic and controls to identify process improvement opportunities and optimize manufacturing efficiency.
  • Design and implement controls hardware and software into new and existing manufacturing equipment, ensuring seamless integration and minimal downtime.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams and coordinate activities to drive process improvements and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to develop solutions and improvements in materials, equipment, and process, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong background in manufacturing automation technologies and architectures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to read and troubleshoot existing ladder logic and generate new ladder logic for complex manufacturing tasks.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines while working on multiple projects, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a GMP, FDA, ISO, and USDA regulated environment, with familiarity with cGMP and ISO 13485 regulations and practices.
  • Familiarity with a variety of material testing and measuring methods, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human machine interfaces (HMIs), motion control, robots, and vision systems.
