Job Description

The Culinary Specialist position operates under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager. This role is essential in delivering exceptional internal guest service, preparing menu items utilizing cooking equipment in a dynamic environment, managing portion control and minimizing food waste, while upholding sanitation, health, and safety standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Accountable for cooking and packaging food items that are prepared to order or kept warm until sold.
  2. Utilizes large-volume cooking equipment such as ovens and grills.
  3. Receives verbal orders from counter staff or directly from guests.
  4. Prepares, washes, and cuts ingredients for cooking.
  5. Prepares and cooks food according to instructions provided on kitchen display systems or through verbal directions; verifies the quality and quantity of all orders.
  6. Manages multiple cooking tasks simultaneously, ensuring that all items are prepared according to guest specifications.
  7. Responsible for maintaining quality and production standards on all menu items. Food must be fresh and of high quality when served to guests.
  8. Ensures portion control and maintains appropriate serving temperatures for all products served.
  9. Responsible for cleaning, stocking, and restocking workstations.
  10. Maintains overall sanitation, health, cleanliness, and safety standards for food preparation areas, cooking services, and utensils.
  11. Adheres to all relevant health department regulations.
  12. Complies with all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Policy Manual.

The above-listed duties are not exhaustive. This position is expected to perform other work-related tasks as assigned, even if they are not considered primary duties.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one to three years of relevant experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  1. Thorough knowledge of food-handling safety.
  2. Basic understanding of or ability to learn workplace safety and sanitation regulations.
  3. Basic understanding of or ability to learn food preparation and cooking techniques.
  4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  5. Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on guest service.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Good command of the English language.
  9. Ability to listen to and comprehend requests from guests, managers, or staff.
  10. Ability to remain composed under pressure.
  11. Ability to learn how to interpret and utilize the kitchen display system.
  12. Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
  13. Reliable, responsible, and dependable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-energy, and physically demanding environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, reach, and prepare food for extended periods.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift objects from a lower to higher position or move objects horizontally.
  • Must maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to carry loads greater than 35 pounds and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • Will be required to use physical capabilities including climbing and navigating stairs and ramps.
  • Able to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Able to work in environments with moderate to high noise levels.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work varied shifts, including evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
