Key Responsibilities:- Preparation and Management: Ready barges for the loading and unloading of various cargoes, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental standards.
- Tow Building Assistance: Aid in constructing tows by managing lines and cables, ensuring secure connections between barges and vessels.
- Maintenance Duties: Perform routine maintenance on vessels and maintain cleanliness in work areas.
- Line Management: Oversee the handling of lines and rigging during the processes of tow building, locking, and docking.
- Barge Operations: Execute the dropping, spotting, and switching of barges at docks as required.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues with barges during cargo transfers.
- Safety Reporting: Communicate any unsafe conditions to the Captain and implement necessary corrective measures.
- Watch Schedule: Adhere to a rotating schedule of six hours on duty followed by six hours off.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow all company policies, as well as US Coast Guard and environmental regulations.
- Must be at least 18 years old to work on a vessel.
- Possess a valid USCG Merchant Mariner's Credential with a Tankerman endorsement.
- Required to have or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Successfully pass a USCG mandated physical examination, including tests for benzene exposure and respirator fit.
- Proficient in English, with the ability to speak, read, and write as per USCG standards.
- Willingness to be away from home for extended periods, typically working 28 days followed by 14 days off.
- Able to manage rigging operations up to specified weight limits.
