The Immigration Legal Assistant collaborates closely with legal staff and interpreters to provide high-quality, compassionate legal assistance to low-income clients.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients in understanding immigration benefits and gather necessary documentation under attorney supervision.
- Work with interpreters to facilitate effective communication and ensure all client documentation is accurately translated.
- Support attorneys in drafting applications for immigration relief and follow up with federal agencies regarding case progress.
- Manage correspondence from immigration authorities, updating case management systems, and notifying clients of important developments.
- Respond to client inquiries about their cases and coordinate with legal staff to escalate issues as needed.
- Maintain detailed and organized case files, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Engage with clients and community partners through outreach efforts and support events related to legal services.
- Commit to ongoing professional development, including pursuing Department of Justice accreditation.
- Adhere to ethical practices and maintain confidentiality in all client interactions.
- Assist in training and supervising interns and volunteers as necessary.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Preferred two years of experience in a legal or related environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Spanish, Pashto, or Dari being highly desirable.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing program needs and client circumstances.
- Willingness to travel as required.
