Our core values of Integrity, Compassion, Respect, and Professionalism guide our mission to deliver mental health, detoxification, recovery, and sobering programs to diverse populations, including women, men, youth, and LGBTQ clients.

Your Impact:

As a Health Technician III, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals facing substance use challenges, often in conjunction with mental health crises. This position allows you to utilize and enhance your skills in compassionate care, crisis intervention, and de-escalation within a supportive and inclusive environment. You will be instrumental in guiding participants from a state of distress to one of hope and potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Service Delivery:

  • Conduct health screenings for all incoming clients.
  • Monitor vital signs, perform medical triage, and assess client needs for sobering services.
  • Maintain accurate records of client medications in both logbooks and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Perform necessary assessments, including rapid risk intoxication evaluations and vital checks for each client entering the facility.
  • Document observations every 30 minutes and case notes every 6 hours in the EHR, detailing medication observations, crisis interventions, and discharge planning.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.
  • Engage in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques with clients exhibiting hostility.
  • Respond promptly to crises, emergencies, and other client needs.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Sobering Center.
  • Participate in daily shift changes, reporting any health-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Coordinator to minimize unnecessary emergency room visits.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee daily monitoring and updates of client EHR for accuracy.
  • Ensure all risk assessments are properly scanned and uploaded into client charts.
  • Verify that all medication clearances and emergency room discharge documents are scanned and uploaded daily.
  • Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties as necessary.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in California.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of alcohol and drug addiction, as well as mental health diagnoses.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Proficient in handling and de-escalating emergency situations.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Capability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including case managers and medical personnel.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to produce clear narrative reports and treatment notes.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record and auto insurance.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Fingerprinting and drug testing required upon hire.
  • Current flu vaccination.

Compensation and Benefits:

Horizon Services Inc offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time and part-time employees working over 20 hours per week, including:

  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance for employees, with 50% coverage for dependents.
  • Paid time off and holiday pay.
  • Retirement benefits after six months of service.
  • Opportunities for training and continuing education.
