About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Privacy and Information Security Counsel to join our Corporate Law Department. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal advice on enterprise programs related to privacy, information security, risk, and compliance.

As a Privacy and Information Security Counsel, you will work closely with our Privacy and Information Security Unit (PISU) to advise on federal and state privacy and information security requirements, enterprise risk management, and the compliance and ethics program. You will also advise on other programs, including information retention, crisis management, AML/OFAC, and business continuity, as well as general technology-related legal matters.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice on privacy and information security requirements, enterprise risk management, and compliance and ethics programs.
  • Collaborate with the PISU team to advise on other programs, including information retention, crisis management, AML/OFAC, and business continuity.
  • Work closely with business leaders throughout the enterprise to provide legal advice on technology-related matters.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in law, technology, and business objectives and efforts.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and excellent academic credentials.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state and be a member in good standing of the bar.
  • Ability to obtain a limited license in IL if not already appropriately licensed in IL.
  • 5+ years of experience with privacy and/or information security laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with risk and/or compliance programs.
  • Familiarity with State Farm's company structure and general departments.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, learning agility, and the ability to excel in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate success anticipating legal issues and enabling clients' needs through the practice of practical, preventative law.
  • Eligibility to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work opportunity.
