Overview of Responsibilities:
The Rehabilitation Support Specialist is responsible for preparing patients for therapeutic interventions, assisting licensed rehabilitation professionals during treatment administration, and delivering routine therapeutic services. This role includes aiding patients in dressing and undressing, applying supportive devices such as braces and slings, and ensuring patient safety and motivation during exercise and functional activities under professional supervision. Responsibilities also encompass providing standard treatments, including hydrotherapy and thermal therapies, transporting patients to treatment areas, and maintaining cleanliness of workspaces and equipment post-treatment. Additionally, the specialist may document treatments administered and manage inventory of supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support licensed rehabilitation staff in delivering patient care, which includes:
a. Assisting in the setup and breakdown of therapeutic modalities and treatments, including but not limited to thermal packs, electrical stimulation, and therapeutic exercises.
b. Collaborating with therapists to assist patients across various age groups, demonstrating competency in age-specific care.
c. Communicating relevant patient feedback regarding treatment experiences to therapists.
d. Facilitating fitness center orientations and managing associated documentation.
e. Preparing and transporting patients and necessary equipment for care delivery.
- Perform administrative tasks, including:
a. Analyzing and optimizing patient scheduling to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
b. Assisting therapists in managing time effectively to ensure all patients receive timely care and documentation.
c. Handling phone communications, managing messages, and ensuring comprehensive patient charting and information collection.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Contribute to departmental cleanliness and participate in professional development activities.
Engage in departmental and hospital initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality and efficiency of care delivery.
- Participate in departmental reviews and quality assurance processes.
Maintain familiarity with departmental policies and procedures, attending required training sessions and meetings.
Ensure a tidy work environment by assisting with scheduled and unscheduled cleaning tasks.
Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education:
Required:
High School Diploma; enrollment in a PTA/PT/OT/COTA program, with a minimum of sophomore standing.
Experience:
Required:
Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and web browsers.
Preferred:
Previous experience in a rehabilitation or healthcare setting with direct patient interaction. Familiarity with specific healthcare software systems is advantageous.

CPR certification to be obtained within three months of employment.
