Position: MSHS Teacher Aide
Incentives Available for Bilingual Candidates
Position Type: Seasonal, Monday-Friday, Daytime Hours
Key Responsibilities: Support the educational team in executing educational and family engagement goals through the daily management of the classroom, adhering to the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Head Start Performance Standards, Nebraska state childcare licensing, and CAPWN policies and procedures.
Primary Duties:
- Assist in establishing a structured classroom environment that implements the program curriculum effectively and follows developmentally appropriate practices.
- Ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing educational atmosphere that promotes quality child development.
- Take charge of daily classroom operations in the absence of the teacher.
- Support the effective use and upkeep of materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities.
- Provide childcare during parent meetings and conferences as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding program details, children, families, and staff.
- Facilitate communication between the teacher, child, and family, utilizing the family's primary language when necessary.
- Engage respectfully with parents and the community.
- Communicate regularly with other educational staff in the classroom.
- Assist in recruiting eligible children to ensure full program enrollment.
- Encourage community involvement and support for the program.
- Contribute to program quality through participation in team meetings and program assessments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Classroom Environment: 90%
- Administrative Tasks: 10%
- Occasional evening and weekend meetings and training sessions.
- Potential out-of-town travel for training purposes.
Physical Requirements:
- Completion of a health physical upon program entry and annual health screenings.
- Completion of TB titer and DTAP vaccination or proof of completion.
- Ability to move around and engage in floor play with children.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Physically fit to perform job responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Grade 6:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must obtain a Child Development Associates credential within 24 months of hire.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Preferred experience working with diverse family backgrounds.
- Current Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED certification or ability to obtain within three months.
- Complete 15 contact hours of education annually related to the position.
Grade 7:
- Meet the minimum requirements above.
- Current Child Development Associates credential required.
Grade 8:
- Meet the minimum requirements above.
- Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education required.
