Heavy Equipment Operator Technician

About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator Technician to join our team at Tarrant Regional Water District.
Job Summary: The successful candidate will assist with the safe and proficient operation of heavy equipment on various projects, maintain equipment in good working order, and perform manual labor tasks as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a range of heavy equipment including uniloader, backhoe, water truck, grapple truck, ag tractor, gradall, and dump truck.
- Identify and report equipment mechanical issues to fleet mechanics for timely repair.
- Clean, inspect, and maintain all equipment daily to ensure optimal performance.
- Locate underground services before commencing work to ensure safety.
- Familiarize yourself with safety regulations and adhere to them at all times.
- Keep the workspace clean and organized.
- Interact and coordinate with other TRWD personnel to achieve project goals.
- Assist with construction projects such as building fences, pouring and finishing concrete, carpentry, and painting.
- Support vegetation maintenance, painting, fence building, and cleaning tasks on pipelines, floodways, ROWs, or operations facilities/property.
- Pull and park utility trailers safely.
- Use weed eaters, zero-turn mowers, and standard mowers to maintain the area.
- Pick up trash along ROWs and/or floodways.
- Maintain knowledge of strategic district service levels.
- Continuously improve processes and innovate solutions to challenges.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Requirements:
- A minimum of one year of experience operating heavy equipment and demonstrating proficiency in operating one of the listed machines (uniloader/skid steer/bobcat/backhoe/grapple truck/rubber tire loader/ag tractor/gradall/dump truck).
- Ability to communicate equipment issues effectively to fleet mechanics.
- Skill in pulling and backing up utility trailers safely.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of grade requirements.
- Prior experience in painting.
- Ability to operate a tractor, grind, cut, or weld, or perform light fleet mechanical repairs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The successful candidate must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach, balance, stoop, talk, and hear while performing job duties. Regularly lifting/moving objects weighing up to 80 pounds is also required.
This role involves working outdoors for extended periods, exposing the employee to varying weather conditions. Periodic work in buildings without climate control and confined spaces, underground areas, ditches, waterways (lakes/rivers), and heights is also expected.
