The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides comprehensive nursing care for patients throughout their life stages. Utilizing the nursing process, the CNS assesses, plans, implements, and documents the outcomes of care. This role involves collaboration with ancillary staff, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to uphold the standards of professional nursing practice. All nursing activities are conducted in accordance with the relevant Nurse Practice Act, institutional policies, and the guiding principles of the Nursing Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts thorough and systematic assessments of all assigned patients.
- Develops collaborative and personalized care plans, establishing expected patient outcomes through the nursing process.
- Implements, evaluates, and documents patient care interventions and their effectiveness as per the care plan.
- Organizes, coordinates, and prioritizes patient care, effectively utilizing available resources.
- Maintains awareness of departmental budgetary considerations.
- Acts as a professional role model and resource, offering guidance to colleagues.
- Engages actively in unit-based performance improvement initiatives.
- Takes responsibility for personal professional development through participation in training and continuing education programs.
- Adheres to the established chain of command for addressing work-related issues.
- Contributes to identifying unit needs and supports departmental goals that enhance the Patient Services Department.
- Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborates with other healthcare providers to ensure appropriate staffing levels across all shifts.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit for up to 2 hours daily; stand for up to 10 hours daily; and walk for 6 hours daily. Capable of lifting, carrying, and pushing objects weighing up to 10 lbs consistently, and occasionally up to 75 lbs. Must be able to transport patients weighing up to 500 lbs using wheelchairs, beds, or stretchers. Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching above shoulder level are required. Must possess the ability to perceive attributes of objects through touch, hear normal conversations and varying frequencies, and see clearly at various distances.
EDUCATION:
Current RN license in the State of Pennsylvania.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Preferred one year of medical/surgical experience. Comprehensive orientation programs are available for all areas. Evidence of successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) training is required.
