Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the Lead Teacher to ensure a nurturing and educational environment for children within the classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of the CDC-selected curriculum, such as the Creative Curriculum.
  • Utilize training resources to implement standard CDC initiatives, including play plans and intentional play strategies.
  • Engage with children through high-quality verbal interactions throughout the day.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to maintain consistent and meaningful interactions with children.
  • Oversee daily classroom activities, integrating opportunities for significant engagement during Creative Curriculum, playtime, meals, and other routines.
  • Employ brain-based techniques derived from CDC research to assist children in self-regulation and managing classroom behaviors.
  • Apply CLASS-based methodologies to enhance interactions, particularly focusing on Instructional Support.
  • Contribute to the CDC literacy initiative by fostering children's development in emergent writing and reading through effective literacy strategies.
  • Participate in post-observation discussions to review strengths, areas for improvement, and alignment with high-quality educational practices.
  • Ensure constant supervision of children within the classroom.
  • Report any developmental or behavioral concerns to the Center Director.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the classroom and its equipment.
  • Conduct two home visits and complete two parent-teacher conferences, as required by the specific program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all CDC policies and procedures as outlined in the policy manual.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Enrollment in a cooperative program, such as Early Childhood Education.
  • At least 2500 hours of verified experience in childcare.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Consistent attendance is essential; punctuality is expected.
  • Potential travel to other centers within the county may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, with intermittent sitting, walking, and occasional bending, twisting, and reaching as necessary for job duties.
  • Dexterity requirements range from coordinated finger and hand movements to basic movements of feet, legs, and torso as needed.
  • Capability to lift and carry children and/or objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
