Full Salary Range: $60,047 - $102,191

Office Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Principal Consultant plays a pivotal role in shaping, executing, and assessing initiatives and procedural frameworks that influence the support provided to students with disabilities or those suspected of having disabilities. This position involves overseeing program compliance, engaging in the evaluation and endorsement of contracts, grants, or projects, facilitating communication among various public entities, offering programmatic guidance, and contributing to the overall mission of enhancing educational services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert on low incidence disabilities, particularly focusing on intellectual disabilities and medically fragile conditions.
  • Provide expertise on disabilities affecting hearing and vision.
  • Oversee the operations of the Philip J. Rock Center and School.
  • Manage alternate assessment waivers.
  • Lead grant and contract development activities, ensuring alignment with district requirements and departmental support.
  • Engage in the department's regulatory oversight functions.
  • Serve as a representative for the agency, providing technical assistance on data collection and reporting, including the development of activities related to the State Performance Plan and Board Goals.
  • Offer content support to school districts and the agency.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent the agency in various stakeholder and inter-agency collaborations.
  • Contribute to the creation and ongoing review of publications, documents, and materials necessary for the agency's operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Education, Educational Administration, Pupil Personnel Services, or Rehabilitation Services; or a Bachelor's degree in these fields with two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing educational or special education services to students with disabilities in public or nonpublic elementary and/or secondary schools, or at the state or university level.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations regarding students with disabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of current trends and best practices in special education.
  • Understanding of methods and practices for serving students with disabilities in inclusive settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of an educator and/or administrative license.
  • Licensure in deaf/hard of hearing.
  • Experience working with students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience across various educational environments.
  • Knowledge of methods for serving students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Sign Language.
