Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor to join our team at NJ TRANSIT. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for supervising a team of employees, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our garages, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Coordinate Maintenance Activities: Supervise employees on assigned shift, including assigning and reviewing work to ensure sufficient, clean, and safe vehicles are available for pull-out.
  • Coordinate with Other Teams: Coordinate with other Maintenance Foremen and Transportation staff at the garage, the Control Center, and at Bus garages to ensure that road calls are properly handled, and that pull-outs go smoothly.
  • Monitor Workforce and Equipment: Monitor workforce at assigned locations to coordinate maintenance activities and clean up activities and to ensure equipment is inspected in accordance with NJ TRANSIT maintenance standards.
  • Supervise Stock Room and Materials: Supervise stock room, authorize special orders, issue materials and ensure security and accurate accounting of stock.
  • Train and Motivate Staff: Train, counsel, and motivate staff to maintain and improve productivity.
  • Enforce Work Rules and Safety Standards: Enforce work rules, safety and cleanliness standards; monitors condition of facility and equipment.
  • Monitor Revenue Collection System: Responsible for monitoring the timeliness and completeness of the revenue collection system, including proper vaulting procedures and reporting procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of applied experience in bus or automotive maintenance.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and experience about automotive maintenance of vehicles, technical knowledge working on computers, excellent written and communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Diesel experience, supervisory experience.
Working Environment
  • Fast-Paced Garage/ Warehouse Work Environment: Fast-paced garage/warehouse work environment.
  • Work Independently: Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exposure to Hazardous Materials: Exposure to equipment, machinery/vehicles, chemicals and other hazardous materials.
  • Physical Demands: Perform tasks which may include heavy physical labor such as lift and carry heavy items, ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel and bend throughout the workday.
