Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a skilled and experienced Histology Technical Specialist to join our Immunohistochemistry team. As a valued member of our team, you will serve as an expert in high complexity testing, with proficiency in system/test validation and writing technical policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct workflow for the IHC department while maintaining quality standards, including QC, Validations, new antibody workups, statistic entry/analysis for accreditation compliance, etc.
  • Perform advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques, including frozen sections, paraffin sections, special stains, histochemical and immunohistochemical stains.
  • Assist in the creation and revision of laboratory policies and technical procedures, ensuring compliance with Clinical Laboratory Services Quality assurance requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining current instrumentation, troubleshooting instrumentation and equipment problems, and coordinating training in the methods and techniques of the appropriate specialty area.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in a science and/or completion of histology training program or equivalent training as defined by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of histology experience, with experience in test/method validation and writing technical policies and procedures.
  • Active ASCP certification as Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Histotechnology or related field.
  • QIHC (Qualification in Immunohistochemistry).
  • Competencies/Skills: Automated IHC experience on Roche platform, Automated Special Stain experience on Roche platform, IHC optimization, ISH, Manual Special Stains, EM, Enzyme histochemistry.
