About Us
USDTL is a privately owned global authority in forensic toxicology testing, catering to hospitals, child welfare organizations, the Department of Defense, legal professionals, and various businesses. We take pride in our advanced research and testing capabilities, particularly in umbilical cord, fingernail/hair, and PEth testing. Our accurate results facilitate early interventions that significantly benefit children, families, and communities.
Role Overview
The Laboratory Specimen Technician will be responsible for:
- Reading and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety protocols relevant to their designated job functions in either Initial Aliquoting or Confirmation Aliquoting, while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Identifying and resolving issues, documenting events, and notifying supervisors as necessary.
- Following established protocols for problem specimens and ensuring proper communication with relevant staff.
- Demonstrating full competency in all job functions under the guidance of a Team Lead or Supervisor after completing in-house training.
- Accurately documenting all computer and worksheet information, making necessary corrections when required.
- Contributing to team goals and supporting job module activities.
- Completing initial and ongoing competency assessments related to Aliquoting modules, including pipetting skills.
- Ensuring accurate completion of Chain of Custody documentation.
- Preparing samples for downstream testing processes while adhering to good laboratory practices.
- Pipetting and weighing aliquots accurately, recording all relevant information.
- Maintaining sample integrity by ensuring proper labeling and preventing cross-contamination.
- Storing samples and aliquots according to matrix and testing requirements.
- Preparing quality control samples and conducting necessary laboratory processes such as dilutions and centrifugation.
- Understanding that higher complexity analytical tests require additional qualifications and training.
The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Two or more years of relevant laboratory experience or an Associate, Medical Technology, or Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field. Alternatively, a Specimen Accessioning Technician II with one year of experience meeting proficiency and competency standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a related field.
