Job Summary

Georgia Military College is seeking a highly qualified Senior Department Chair/Assistant Professor in English to join our team. As a key member of our academic leadership, you will be responsible for leading the English department, teaching courses, and contributing to the college's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the English department, overseeing curriculum development, faculty management, and academic operations.
  • Teach English courses, including freshman and sophomore level classes, in a variety of instructional modalities.
  • Develop and implement policies focused on student success and retention, with a particular emphasis on reducing failure and withdrawal rates.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs to develop course schedules and academic programs.
  • Supervise adjunct faculty, conduct classroom observations, and adjudicate academic appeals and requests.
  • Participate in committee work and student organization advising, contributing to the college's overall mission and goals.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in English or a related field, with 18 graduate-level semester hours in English.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of teaching experience, preferably in a community college environment.
  • Ability to manage course records, including Class Attendance, Student Grades, and posting of Course Syllabi in the Moodle learning management system.
  • Willingness to teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses, as well as Dual Enrollment courses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching freshman and sophomore level English courses, with a preference for candidates with leadership potential.
  • 2 or more years of prior experience leading, mentoring, and developing faculty.
  • A Master's Degree is required, with a Ph.D. preferred.
