Job Summary:

As a Staff Nurse with Indian Health Service, you will play a key role in providing high-quality nursing care to youth in treatment at the Youth Regional Treatment Center (YRTC).


  • Supervise and provide nursing direction/care to youth in treatment.
  • Provide clinical guidance to a team of employees providing inpatient adolescent substance use, behavioral health, and co-occurring disorders care.


Responsibilities:


  • Provides direct residential nursing services, including screening patients and eliciting patient history.
  • Affects needs and refers for care.
  • Coordinates medications with pharmacy.
  • Supervises medication administration for licensed and/or certified staff.
  • Operates medical equipment.
  • Records observations, assessment, and intervention on patient's medical records.
  • Provides and assists in the provision of emergency treatment.

Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • Rotation Shift is required including Day, Evening, Nights, Weekend, and Holidays.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Education and Qualifications:

  • A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
  • Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Work Environment:

  • Prolong walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Ability to attend outdoor recreational/cultural activities in extreme to cold/hot weather.
  • High levels of stress may be experienced in relation to work with residents with substance use, behavioral health, and other co-occurring disorders.
  • Emergency and/or crisis situations may require physical effort to restrain patient, and occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
Background Investigation:

  • If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation.
