Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant Opportunity

Montefiore Medical Center seeks a board eligible/board certified Physician Assistant to join our Division of Critical Care Medicine. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to provide comprehensive healthcare and develop plans of care within our fully integrated service responsible for 24/7 coverage of adult medical, surgical, cardiothoracic, and neuroscience ICUs at our Moses and Weiler campuses.

The Physician Assistant will be responsible for medical services delegated by the supervising physician, including obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, formulating diagnoses, developing and implementing treatment plans, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, offering counseling and education to meet patient needs, and making appropriate referrals.

In emergency situations, the Physician Assistant will be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. Additional responsibilities include arterial catheter insertion/removal, central venous catheter insertion/removal, temporary hemodialysis catheter insertion/removal, pulmonary artery catheter insertion/removal, midline catheter insertion/removal, thoracentesis, endotracheal intubation, chest tube insertion/removal, intra-aortic balloon pump removal, arterial sheath removal, intraosseous catheter insertion/removal, interpretation of pulmonary artery catheter tracings, management of patients with ventricular assist devices, and management of patients with extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation circuits.

The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes, and other institution settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program
  • Registered as a Physician's Assistant in New York State
  • NCCPA certified
  • Completion of an accredited Critical Care Physician Assistant certification program or 1-2 years of surgery, medicine, or emergency medicine preferred
  • Schedule: 50/50 days and nights; Rotating weekends
