The Patient Service Representative - Float embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

This role is essential in supporting the service area by managing patient check-ins and check-outs for appointments. The Patient Service Representative - Float Pool is expected to consistently deliver outstanding customer service while assisting patients and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work hours will vary based on organizational needs; flexibility in scheduling is required to meet immediate staffing demands.
  2. Provide support across various medical clinics within Northwestern Medicine, with a willingness to travel locally as necessary.
  3. Engage with patients and guests by greeting them upon arrival, verifying their identity, and supplying essential information regarding their visit.
  4. Execute check-in and check-out procedures as instructed.
  5. Verify and update patient identification along with demographic and insurance details.
  6. Facilitate patient registration when required.
  7. Gather patient consents and authorizations.
  8. Collect co-payments, outstanding balances, and payments at the point of service.
  9. Process payments, manage billing information, and perform end-of-day cash drawer reconciliation.
  10. Maintain a clean and welcoming waiting area.
  11. Notify patients of any delays or changes in their appointment status.
  12. Schedule appointments as needed.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a customer service role.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Bilingual abilities.
