Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Product Development Leads, systems/discipline engineers, and vendors to update and track schedule milestones, hold technical interchange discussions, review monthly financial statements, budget, and resources forecast.
  • Support the current Product Development Lead of the Frequency Reference System to maintain and modify the technology development contract and future flight contracts.
  • Lead or co-lead the development of system-level test plans and procedures to characterize the Frequency Reference System performance with the Laser Head for the LISA mission.
  • Represent the NASA project team at technical interface meetings with engineers from international partners, including the European Space Agency (ESA) and ESA member research activities.
  • Provide expert resources through technical publications in a manner consistent with space-based projects and published results in professional scientific journals.
  • Lead or co-lead effective teams comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, including scientists, multi-disciplinary engineers, students, and support staff at multiple institutions.
  • Identify technical risks and provide mitigation plans for retiring these risks.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence, and innovation, and champion NASA's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility to create an environment that promotes a commitment to safety, integrity, and teamwork.
Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions, which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:

  • Working with laser and electro-optical technology, such as pump diodes, lasers, amplifiers, lidars, etalons, electronics instrumentation, measurement automation, conducting data analysis, optical alignment, developing hardware, integrating, and testing laser and electro-optics for airborne or spaceborne instrument systems.
  • Implementing NASA flight protocols, such as the General Environmental Verification Standard (GEVS) or other similar standards.
  • Supporting space flight instruments during development, as well as integration and testing.
