Position Overview

The Neuroscience RPA is in search of a motivated and passionate individual to support various functions within the NeuroBank, a biobank dedicated to neuroscience research.

Upon successful completion of a 12-month performance review and training, there may be opportunities for this individual to transition into a full-time staff role or continue as a STEPS employee.

This role involves assisting the program manager with patient consent processes, collection and processing of human biological samples, and management of clinical and regulatory data.

Training will be provided in patient consent for clinical research and collaboration with residents, nurses, physicians, and clinical coordinators. Additional training will cover laboratory techniques for processing human samples (such as blood, CSF, saliva, and urine), isolating various components from biofluids, creating deidentified sample labels, and sample storage. There will also be opportunities to learn data entry in clinical databases like RedCap and OnCore, contributing human samples to ongoing neuroscience research initiatives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Screening potential candidates for neurological research studies
  • Educating and consenting research participants regarding the risks, benefits, and alternatives of procedures
  • Engaging with patients, medical staff, and physicians
  • Traveling across the medical campus to meet with patients and collect biospecimens
  • Processing biological samples
  • Maintaining daily data entry and spreadsheet records

Occasional Duties
  • Assisting in the operating room during deep brain stimulation surgeries to collect various samples
  • Early start times for pre-operative patient preparations
  • Extended hours, including weekends, for sample collection and processing

Required Skills and Knowledge

Educational Background: Bachelor of Science

Laboratory Skills: Proficiency in pipetting, benchtop techniques, and centrifugation

Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Excel, EPIC, RedCap, OnCore, Outlook, and Teams

Essential Abilities: Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Experience in consenting/clinical research or phlebotomy is advantageous.
