The Land Survey Crew Chief is responsible for overseeing field survey operations, working both independently and collaboratively with team members. This role involves conducting various types of surveys, including boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title surveys, topographic surveys, photo control surveys, route surveys, and construction stakeout, all under the guidance of a Registered Professional Surveyor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the effective management of the field crew, adhering to established operating procedures and current health and safety regulations.
- Utilize robotic total stations and GPS technology to gather precise data and information efficiently.
- Perform tasks such as driving stakes, documenting detailed notes and diagrams, and maintaining company equipment and survey vehicles.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient in the operation of GPS devices, data collectors, and Total Stations.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in various situations.
- Strong understanding of land surveying principles, techniques, and practices.
- Familiarity with computer-aided drafting and civil engineering principles, as well as construction specifications and regulations.
- Knowledge of safe workplace practices specific to the industry.
- Capability to operate motorized equipment effectively.
- Willingness to work outdoors in diverse field conditions.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to use hands, tools, and controls efficiently.
- Ability to lift and/or move weights ranging from 50 to 75 pounds.
- Competence in managing office functions efficiently, organizing tasks, setting priorities, and maintaining positive interpersonal relations with staff and clients.
- Local travel may be required within a 300-mile radius.
- A valid driver's license is mandatory.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A high school diploma is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience as a survey crew chief is preferred.
Compensation:
Salary and hourly wages are commensurate with experience.
