Position Summary:
The Marine Fabrication Specialist will be responsible for accurately laying out, positioning, aligning, and assembling components of structural metal products under regular supervision while strictly adhering to safety protocols within the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Aligns, fits, and welds components to create complete units or subunits, following engineering drawings and layout specifications, utilizing jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
2. Ensures that workpieces conform to specifications through the use of measuring tools such as squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
3. Tack-welds fitted components together as required.
4. Lays out and inspects metal stock or workpieces to confirm compliance with specifications.
5. Adjusts and fits components according to specifications using various tools including jacks, turnbuckles, and hammers.
6. Marks workpiece bending and cutting lines, accounting for material thickness and other specifications.
7. Positions or secures braces, jacks, clamps, or bolt straps for welding or riveting.
8. Reviews engineering drawings to ascertain material requirements and task sequences.
9. Moves components into position manually or with the aid of hoists or cranes.
10. Operates fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, and drill presses to shape and assemble metal components.
11. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
1. Proficient in measuring, cutting, and grinding components for structural assemblies.
2. Efficiently utilizes materials to minimize waste.
3. Advanced skills in using cutting equipment, including Plasma Cutters and Oxy/Fuel Torches.
4. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
5. Expertise in fitting operations and understanding weld joint design.
6. Skilled in the installation and removal of fasteners and rivets.
7. Capable of identifying material types and thicknesses accurately.
8. Proficient in advanced tack welding techniques in various positions.
9. Knowledgeable in shipbuilding standards and safety regulations.
10. Ability to instruct others in navigating work areas on vessels.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED with 4 or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to access military installations as required.
Physical Requirements:
1. Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and seek assistance for heavier weights.
2. Capable of standing or sitting for extended periods.
During site visits, adherence to PPE protocols is mandatory, including:
