As a Computer Systems Specialist with the City of Reno, you will provide second-level support in planning, design, testing, and implementation of citywide computer, telecommunications, and other end-user systems. You will install and maintain systems software and hardware, coordinate with citywide IT resources, and provide complex administration support to assigned departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to help desk calls and provide assistance for end-user computer-related problems.
  • Install, upgrade, and configure computers, telephones, printers, and peripherals.
  • Load and test operating systems and software, maintain installation records.
  • Diagnose and repair computer and software problems, contact vendors for repairs.
  • Maintain technology equipment inventory, receive and store hardware and software.
  • Perform security administration for network resources, maintain user and machine accounts.
  • Assist in network system installation, setup, and support, diagnose and resolve connectivity issues.
  • Administer and troubleshoot multimedia systems, maintain digital video recording systems.
  • Update documentation library, develop custom applications, and participate in software and hardware system evaluation.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with computer systems, repair, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Understanding of computer systems analysis, design, programming, and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, business system applications, and security protocols.
  • Understanding of networking, protocols, and hardware, including local area network operations.
  • Skills in documenting equipment, software, and creating instructions and training documentation.
  • Proficiency in software operation, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphics applications.
  • Understanding of project management principles and methods.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in computer science, information systems, business, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible computer support experience, preferably in a government agency environment.
  • CompTIA or Microsoft certification may be substituted for one year of experience.

Work Environment:

  • Work in a standard office setting with some travel and exposure to inclement weather.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling light to moderate amounts of weight.
  • Operating office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination.

  • Ability to work in a team-based environment, communicate effectively, and adapt to changing technologies.
