Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be accountable for the creation and adjustment of design calculations, technical documentation, engineering drawings, and specifications for designated projects. You will collaborate closely with the project manager to conduct research, development, calculations, design, and project delivery. Your role will involve applying engineering methodologies, procedures, and design standards for projects of varying scales and complexities.
Utilizing your technical expertise, you will assist in the execution and assessment of project designs, developing both conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to facilitate project execution using contemporary drawing and technical tools, programs, and software.
You may also mentor and review the work of junior engineering staff, providing constructive insights.
What You Will Accomplish:
- Complete assigned tasks within the allocated timeframe and hours.
- Assist in formulating project specifications.
- Take charge of discipline-specific engineering project components and deliverables, including reports, designs, and plans.
- Facilitate coordination and productivity among project team members.
- Offer technical guidance to less experienced engineering team members.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Conduct quality control reviews of discipline-specific engineering project components and deliverables.
- Aid in the planning and coordination of schedules, hours, and work distribution within the discipline.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 4 years of relevant experience, or
- Master's degree in Engineering with 3 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with railroad manuals, policies, standards, and preferences, including AREMA manuals.
- Ability to optimize work processes through knowledge of effective and efficient methodologies, emphasizing continuous improvement.
- Capability to independently advance the majority of designs and tasks pertinent to the discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and MicroStation.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles.
- Strong time management skills, with proactive forecasting and communication regarding project development needs.
Additional Preferences:
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Experience with AREMA manual.
- Familiarity with Class I railroad standard bridges.
