Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. As a commissioned law enforcement officer, you will be responsible for protecting persons and property on our campus, detecting and preventing crime, and maintaining peace and order.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce all laws, including penal and traffic laws, to ensure a safe and secure environment for our community.
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or in a police vehicle to prevent and respond to crimes.
  • Respond to calls for assistance, service, and hazardous situations, providing timely and effective support.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of reported incidents, complete required reports, and provide evidence to support cases.
  • Develop and implement crime prevention programs to educate the community and reduce crime rates.
  • Attend required annual training seminars to stay up-to-date on the latest law enforcement techniques and procedures.
  • Utilize police equipment, such as firearms, batons, handcuffs, radios, and cameras, to perform duties effectively.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver's license.
  • Must be TCOLE certified and pass a background investigation.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must have successfully completed a TCOLE basic licensing course and passed the TCOLE licensing examination.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 10 years of experience in law enforcement or a related field.
  • Technical certification or licensing directly related to the job.
Additional Information

Salary will be based on years of experience. Additional benefits include special event overtime pay, uniforms and equipment provided, paid university holidays, education incentive, state benefits, longevity pay, and retirement. Tuition benefits are also available up to 3 hours/week based on eligibility.
