Role Summary: The Senior Clinical Nurse Supervisor operates under the guidance of the Clinical Manager and Assistant Clinical Manager to ensure optimal patient flow and high-quality care during operational hours. This role involves overseeing the training of new personnel and the ongoing education of existing staff. The Senior Clinical Nurse Supervisor collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, advanced practice providers, patient service representatives, medical records personnel, and nursing staff, to deliver comprehensive care in a supportive environment.
Essential Skills: Outstanding customer service, self-motivated, and capable of thriving in a dynamic setting.
Objective:
To coordinate and oversee patient care within the designated clinical area.
This position is also accountable for adherence to Urology Associates' policies and procedures, compliance with accreditation standards (if applicable), and relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as proficient use of Urology Associates' computer systems and applications.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide support for the clinical team, performing duties typical of a medical assistant, licensed practical nurse, and registered nurse.
- Assist in supervising the performance of clinic staff, including medical assistants, LPNs, RNs, and other support personnel, offering input for performance evaluations and corrective action plans as necessary.
- Oversee and mentor new and current staff in collaboration with the clinic manager.
- Provide ongoing supervision to the same staff members.
- Assist with medication refill requests, specialty referrals, and pre/post clinic chart reviews as needed.
- Review patient charts, lab results, and encounter forms for thoroughness and necessary follow-up.
- Help resolve scheduling issues, patient wait times, and other concerns to enhance service efficiency and quality.
- Support the coordination of the PN program with educational institutions and facilitate in-clinic student shadowing.
- Collaborate with clinic staff on initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes.
- Perform additional administrative tasks and clinical duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and maintenance of medical supplies.
- Provide coverage for medical assistants, LPNs, RNs, and other clinic support staff during absences when no other resources are available.
- Assist with various administrative projects and tasks as required.
- Participate in daily and monthly quality assurance reviews, including emergency kit checks.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by management.
Diagnostic Responsibilities:
- Collect and process patient specimens.
- Conduct CLIA waived/non-waived tests.
- Prepare lab, procedure, and examination rooms on a daily basis.
- Collect, log, and analyze urine samples.
- Prepare urine samples for cultures and other laboratory tests as directed.
- Ensure patient rooms are adequately stocked with supplies and medication samples.
- Autoclave necessary instruments.
- Maintain logs of all tests ordered.
- Run daily lab controls and print lab orders.
- Distribute lab results and reports to the appropriate healthcare providers.
- Assist with various procedures, including but not limited to:
- Cystoscopies
- Hydrocele aspirations
- Stent removals
- Flow rates/PVR
- Vasectomies
- BCG treatments
- Fulguration
- Catheter insertion/removal
- Rezum procedures
- Prostate biopsies
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of lab and exam rooms.
- Utilize proper grammar and professional language in all communications.
- Assist the Clinical Manager, Practice Administrator, and Physicians in ensuring smooth operational workflows.
- Answer phone calls promptly, employing appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Document patient histories, test orders, and other patient interactions in the electronic medical record system.
- Conduct business in a professional manner, treating patients and colleagues with respect and dignity.
- Ensure functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies are available. Respond to emergencies as needed and document incidents to the supervisor.
- Implement patient education plans for various health concerns as designated.
- Act as a patient advocate and address patient issues, escalating unresolved matters to Clinical Supervisors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull patients.
- Perform motor skills such as standing, walking, writing, and using office equipment.
- Exhibit gross body coordination for tasks involving carrying and lifting.
- Stand or bend over equipment for extended periods.
- Possess visual acuity for reading instruments and computer screens.
- Utilize depth perception and judgment for assessing distances and sizes.
- Hear normal sounds amidst background noise.
- Process large amounts of information while maintaining focus on details and managing interruptions.
Travel Requirements:
Travel between clinics may be necessary.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
At least one year of current experience in a private practice or outpatient setting, along with proficiency in relevant computer software, is required.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
Licensure and Certification:
A current RN license in the appropriate jurisdiction is required, along with current BLS certification.
