Position Description

The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Health Sciences Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor to act as Chief/Medical Director and teaching attending physician within its Addiction Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, catering to a diverse patient demographic.

The selected candidate will provide clinical oversight in addiction treatment at the outpatient facility, which is supported by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and trainees. They will serve as a key resource for the UC Davis Health system.

Responsibilities include facilitating collaboration in addiction treatment and educational initiatives across various departments and associated programs, such as Emergency Medicine/Toxicology, Family Medicine, and the Veterans Affairs.

The candidate will also supervise general psychiatry and combined residents in Internal Medicine/Psychiatry and Family Medicine/Psychiatry as they manage addiction cases.

Additionally, the individual will oversee and contribute to the education of pre-clinical and clinical medical students, as well as psychiatry residents in addiction psychiatry, in conjunction with the program director for Addiction Medicine fellows.

Experience in outpatient clinic management, program development, and a comprehensive understanding of addiction treatment modalities is highly desirable. Time will be allocated for administrative duties, didactic instruction, case discussions, and supervision.

Moreover, the candidate will engage in scholarly or creative endeavors that support their clinical teaching and professional service activities. They will also evaluate and treat their own patients.

The incumbent will be responsible for teaching and supervising medical students, residents, and fellows, actively participating in relevant professional organizations and educational bodies, and contributing to departmental and school committees.

This individual should demonstrate the ability to promote collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment while adhering to university policies and procedures.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences comprises approximately 65 residents across six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists affiliated with the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System.

The department offers a dynamic teaching and academic environment.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application):
  • MD
  • Board certification in general psychiatry
  • Board certification in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine
  • California Medical license (or eligibility for licensure in California)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in teaching and supervising residents, fellows, and medical students is preferred, along with experience in supervising adult psychiatry residents/fellows, general psychiatry residents, and medical students.
