Clinical Laboratory TechnicianJob Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital. In this role, you will perform essential laboratory tests on various body fluids to provide critical data for diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities- Conduct quantitative and qualitative clinical chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid.
- Analyze blood samples for transfusion and hematological purposes, including cellular morphology, white cell differentials, blood typing, antibody screens, compatibility testing, and more.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Accurately log and review patient testing results within electronic medical records.
- Proficiently collect patient specimens following established protocols and maintain a safe and sterile environment.
- Engage in positive patient interactions, ensuring clear communication and identification.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
- Maintain meticulous records and accurately enter data into computer systems.
- Exhibit a willingness to learn new techniques and procedures, contributing to the overall efficiency of the laboratory.
- Assist in inventory management and preparation of specimens for analysis.
- Provide training and guidance to new employees on general laboratory functions and techniques.
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager to ensure adherence to quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements.
- Uphold strict confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An Associate's degree or postsecondary education certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Two years of relevant experience in a hospital or laboratory setting is preferred.
- ASCP certification or an equivalent nationally recognized Medical (Laboratory) Technologist certification (MLT).
