As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Medical Technologist plays a crucial role in performing essential laboratory tests that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute both quantitative and qualitative analyses of clinical specimens, including blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of blood samples for transfusion compatibility and hematological assessments, including cellular morphology and antibody screening.
- Maintain and service laboratory instruments to ensure optimal functionality.
- Accurately document and review patient test results within their medical records.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the collection of patient specimens, adhering to established protocols.
- Engage positively with patients to ensure proper identification and interaction.
- Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills, along with effective clerical abilities.
- Input data accurately into the laboratory information system.
- Show a willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks as required.
- Utilize time efficiently to enhance productivity.
- Perform necessary clerical duties to support laboratory operations.
- Assist in managing inventory levels of laboratory supplies.
- Prepare and process specimens for analysis.
- Provide training and guidance to new employees regarding laboratory procedures and functions.
- Support the Laboratory Manager in quality assurance initiatives to uphold institutional standards.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies.
- Associate's degree or a postsecondary education certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a clinical or laboratory environment is preferred.
- Possession of ASCP certification or an equivalent nationally recognized Medical Laboratory Scientist certification (MLS/MT).
