Professional Non-Teaching/Social Worker
DEFINITION:
The Social Worker (District-wide) is responsible for providing intervention and assistance to families requiring support services. This role involves engaging with students and families both in educational settings and at home. The Social Worker collaborates with the special education department regarding student placements and acts as a case manager for these individuals. This position requires a high level of independence, motivation, and accountability, along with flexibility in scheduling to accommodate evening or weekend engagements when necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class).
TASKS:
Provides assistance to students, staff, parents, and community members (e.g., applications for services, transportation for parents/students, interpreting technical information, etc.) to ensure the delivery of necessary information and services.
Engages with parents on behalf of the educational institution (e.g., attendance and homework concerns, available programs/services, completing necessary documentation, etc.) to foster a collaborative relationship between home and school.
Coordinates home visits and facilitates parent meetings as assigned to gather information and address the needs and challenges faced by students and their families.
Maintains various confidential and non-confidential records (e.g., activity logs, phone logs, community resources, etc.) to document activities and ensure the availability of necessary references.Organizes a range of activities (e.g., Care Club, parent meetings, conferences, community engagement activities, etc.) to support the school and parents, highlight students' talents, and celebrate community diversity.
Participates in various meetings, workshops, and committees to share and gather information necessary for performing job functions and to remain informed about program guidelines.
Performs clerical and record-keeping tasks (e.g., scheduling, copying, etc.) to assist the administrator in maintaining essential records and materials.Refers students and their families to external agencies (e.g., state agencies, medical professionals, counselors, charities, etc.) to ensure that their needs are adequately addressed.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g., parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) to provide information and direction as required.
Assists the juvenile court system with adjudicated students; provides connections with relevant programs; makes referrals and coordinates services with community wellness centers; performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of district policies and procedures
Knowledge of community-based service agencies.
Knowledge of services required for culturally and economically diverse populations.
Skill in identifying the needs of individuals and families in educational, social, mental health, and medical services, and developing and implementing appropriate service plans.
Skill in both oral and written communicationSkill in establishing and maintaining professional relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is conducted in an indoor environment. The role requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, visual monitoring, and may involve some lifting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in social work or a closely related field.
Three (3) years of experience in social services, mental health settings, or a combination of experience, education, and training.
Experience with bilingual (Spanish/English) populations is preferred.Reliable transportation
Availability to work flexible hours as needed.
Depending on district needs, some incumbents in this role may be required to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
