Responsible for overseeing the educational framework for Fellows, Residents, Students, and newly onboarded Sonographers.

Delivers instruction and support in executing diagnostic echocardiographic procedures to evaluate cardiac structures and hemodynamics, employing various techniques such as 2-dimensional, M-Mode, color flow, pulse wave, and continuous wave Doppler, in line with established Rochester Regional Health Policies and Procedures.

SCHEDULE:

CREDENTIALS:
Appropriate certification in echocardiography from: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct routine and specialized echocardiographic studies independently, including transthoracic and stress echocardiographic techniques, transesophageal, and contrast examinations as necessary at both inpatient and outpatient facilities within Rochester Regional.

Adhere to HIPAA regulations, ensuring patient confidentiality and privacy. Introduce yourself to patients and clarify your role in their care. Provide clear explanations of procedures to guarantee patient cooperation, safety, and optimal outcomes. Assist patients during transitions from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds to examination tables.

Review preliminary diagnostic reports linked to procedures to formulate initial interpretations for the reading cardiologist, while also offering preliminary observations for each examined structure.

Engage in discussions with the reading cardiologist as required. Retrieve and present previous echocardiographic studies for comparison with current evaluations, if available.

Support and facilitate the professional growth, education, and training of Fellows, Residents, Students, and newly hired Sonographers. Serve as the imaging resource expert for all cardiac sonographers on staff. Conduct educational presentations for Fellows, Residents, Students, and cardiac sonographers.

Act as a super-user during the introduction of new equipment or programs within the department.

Collaborate with the Chief Sonographer, Lead Sonographers, and Fellowship faculty.

Participate in the development of educational courses and curricula.

Engage in scan labs at RIT and other educational institutions.

Maintain a productivity level of at least 70%, managing 5 to 6 patients daily.

Exhibit a willingness to travel to all Rochester Regional Health sites.

Oversee all educational activities for Cardiology Fellows, Fellows from other specialties, Residents, Students, and newly hired Sonographers across all inpatient and outpatient locations.

Conduct performance evaluations and maintain ongoing assessments of Fellows, Residents, Students, and Sonographers, reporting to Lead Sonographers, Chief System Cardiac Sonographer, and Cardiology fellowship faculty, as well as site Echo Directors and Division heads of cardiac imaging.

Lead quality assurance initiatives.

Participate in and spearhead special projects, including process and quality improvement initiatives.

Contribute to efforts to achieve and sustain IAC accreditation for the echo lab, including related quality assurance processes and meetings.

Ensure compliance with IAC objectives and quality assurance initiatives by Cardiac Sonographers.

Provide support to Fellows, Residents, Students, and newly hired Sonographers during recruitment and orientation.

Act as a resource for staff in resolving complex issues and enhancing technical skills.

Assist the system Chief Sonographer, Division head of Cardiac Imaging, and site Echo Directors in the formulation of new clinical policies and procedures.

Utilize independent judgment during examinations to ensure accurate capture of anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions in exam images, in accordance with current RRH Echocardiography Policies and Procedures.

Perform necessary cardiac measurements to generate preliminary findings and manage image acquisition/storage to support the interpreting physician in finalizing diagnostic reports.

Maintain the echo lab and examination rooms in a clean and functional state, communicating facility needs as appropriate. Troubleshoot daily operations, equipment malfunctions, and inventory/product supply issues. Address conflicts related to resources essential for efficient operations. Ensure ultrasound equipment operates at optimal levels. Attend monthly echo fellow conferences at Rochester Regional Health, as well as local and national Echocardiography/Cardiology conferences to enhance clinical knowledge.

Foster a positive attitude and collaborative working relationships with peers and supervisory staff, while being receptive to feedback and coaching.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At least five (5) years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
